How LinkedIn Can Boost Your Career



What is LinkedIn?
LinkedIn is a social networking site that is geared towards professionals in a business oriented way.  It is designed to establish connections to expand your networking reach online. Users are also able to create a personal profile where they are able to promote their skills, previous employment, and knowledge in a professional background. It allows members to get in contact with previous and current colleagues, search for new job opportunities and networks.  As you begin to connect with people that you know, you can see who is connected with them and so on. LinkedIn users exchange information and ideas to help further their careers to reach their professional goals. This network is strongly utilized by research a variety of different employment and other opportunities.

How can LinkedIn be beneficial for you?
·      Establish and maintain your professional profile
·      Networking to keep professional relationships
·      Build on creating a broader network with other employers
·      Meet new and reconnect with other colleagues and classmates
·      Research and discover about other companies and job opportunities


How do I begin to build my LinkedIn profile?  
·      Have a descriptive profile: list previous job employment, internships, volunteer work, degrees (bachelors, masters, PH.D, etc.), credentials, software skills, different languages, etc. If you provide detailed information on your profile, recruiters will be able to see your qualifications when they search for specific qualities.
·      Professional profile picture: Anyone who views your profile, or even a potential recruiter will see this picture so you want to always make a good first impression by having a professional profile picture of you.
·      Your Professional Headline: This is a glimpse of who you are. You want your headline to consists of any goals you want to pursue, and other important facts that you find unique about yourself. 
·      Begin making connections: Don’t be shy to branch out and start networking with other individuals. Start by connecting with people that you actually know first and then segway into meeting new people.
·      Contact Information: Remember to always add your contact information so others can reach you. Make sure to leave a phone number and email address that you check frequently. This is also a great way for potential recruiters to reach you if they feel can be a good aspect to their company or organizer.
